YouTube Haircutting Videos – Entertainment, NOT Education
Nov 14, 2025The main reason I wanted to create my Haircutting Course at VelascoHaircuttingSystem.com was not to boost my own ego or add another notch on my belt.
But instead, it’s intended to help those of you who have enter the Beauty Industry only to discover that what you learned in Cosmetology School was really only an introduction to the topics that you would need to learn to Master after you graduated to prepare you for the real world of hairdressing in a Salon Situation.
Cosmetology Schools do a great job in preparing you to pass your State Board Examination, which is the main function of these schools. But it’s upon yourself to continue your education once you leave school in order to learn the ins and outs of how to do Great Haircuts…
But unfortunately, many young hairdressers seek this education in the wrong places, such as YouTube and Instagram, which are great for inspiration and fueling your creative juices, but social media shouldn’t be mistaken as Real Education.
The Problem with Social-Media as Education…
As I see it, the problem with social media as education is that since we live in an era of constant, nonstop information at the tips of our fingers, with platforms like YouTube and Instagram, many hairdressers feel that this is the best avenue for them to learn how to cut hair.
But, as good and entertaining as some of these videos are, they can often leave you overwhelmed and confused as they suck you into a nonstop whirlpool of disconnected and unrelated videos… this is Entertainment, NOT Real Education.
Platforms such as YouTube and Instagram are nothing but forms of media (hence the name: Social-Media). They are no different than what magazines and newspapers used to be in the old days.
Their main function is “Advertising”, to catch as many eyeballs as possible so that the actors in these videos can make money off of their “CLICKS” and in many cases, off of the products they promote in the videos. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, but it should not be misconstrued as Valid Education.
By the way, as full disclosure, I have a YouTube Channel of my own where I have posted many videos on Haircolor Theory and Haircolor Correction. But difference is that for me, my YouTube Channel is not a business, I don’t make a dime off of it. I have it primarily to be able to offer Hairdressers a free source of Haircolor Theory Education…
I’m not an influencer, and I have no intention on trying to become one. I’m an Educator, so my goal in my YouTube Channel is to provide hairdressers pure education, Period!
The other problem I see with trying to learn how to cut hair through social media, is that there is a torrent of information available to you. So much so that you simply don’t know what to focus on first.
Every video is teaching you a different technique and a different philosophy of haircutting, and none of it goes into any great detail and frankly, a lot of it is very poor, misleading information and simply doesn’t make sense and it only skims the surface of topics that are designed to get a “CLICK” and catch your eye long enough for you to buy their products.
When I say a torrent of information, what I mean is trying to get educated by watching these YouTube videos is like trying to drink water from a fire hose. It all comes at your face so fast that you don’t know what to focus on, so you end up simply getting confused and frustrated and after spending hours online, you have nothing to show for it..
So, in the Velasco Haircutting System, I have decided to teach you haircutting just like I taught my own staff members at my salon for 40 years. In a Logical, Systematic, Organized way that makes sense to the student.
And for all of the 56-Haircuts in the course, you will also receive a "PDF Study Guide" as well as "Haircutting Blueprints" and some other Educational Support Material to help you remember all the haircuts that you learn the program.
In the Course, we start from a very basic foundation of simply how to cut a straight line and then with every haircut that we do after that, we will learn a new and different technique that will build up upon the previous one.
For Example: I teach my students a “System of Sectioning and Parting” the hair that I call my “Universal Sectioning Pattern“. And this Universal Section Pattern is used for every one of the haircuts that you will learn in my entire course.
You see, I believe that a true haircutting system isn’t just a bunch of different unrelated haircuts thrown together, but instead it’s an organized methodical plan of action that is easy to understand and will always follow a similar pattern, but in the end, creates distinctly different hairstyles…. any hairstyle you wish to create.
In essence, I will become your Haircutting Mentor…Someone who will teach you the ropes and show you “Step-By-Step” exactly what you need to do to become an Expert Haircutter.
