The Secret of Muscle Memory
Oct 24, 2025Learning to Cut Hair is like Learning a Musical Instrument….It takes Practice, Practice, Practice…
A Famous Musician was once asked “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” and he answered: Practice, Practice, Practice…
It’s No Secret that to get good a playing any musical instrument it takes a lot of practice.
In the early phases of a musicians journey they first have to get comfortable with the instrument itself. Where are the notes located? How do you play the notes and change the pitches to sharps and flats? What techniques are used to change the tonalities and the mood of the music?
Then they need to learn how to read music. There are only 7 Natural Notes in Western music, but these 7 Notes can be played many different ways to produce different Sounds (melodies)…
At this early point in a Musicians journey, the Musician has everything they need to be able to play any song they would ever want to play, the only thing that keeps them from doing that is “How Well” they can play the notes and read the music…and that takes PRACTICE!!! … A LOT of PRACTICE to get good…
In the same way, becoming a good Haircutter takes Practice….
~ You can attend Cosmetology School and learn the basic fundamentals and terminology of haircutting…
~ You can watch 1,000 YouTube videos on hundreds of different haircuts…
~ You could even attend, live haircutting classes and hair shows every weekend of the year and watch the best haircutters in the world on stage performing their magic…
…..BUT, until you get your hands in the hair and do the haircuts yourself, “Step-By-Step” and “Over-&-Over-&-Over” again, you will never become an Expert Haircutter…
That’s why in my Haircutting Course at VelascoHaircuttingSystem.com where I Teach 56 Different Haircuts, I don’t only break down each and every haircut “Section-By-Section” and “Step-By-Step”, but you will actually do these haircuts with me Over and Over several times to make sure that the Techniques that I Teach you in the course are thoroughly ingrained in your Mind and in your Hands. This “Repetition of Motion” will allow something called “Muscle Memory“ to kick in.
Muscle Memory is something that Professional Musicians are very familiar with. It’s when the neurons in your brain recognize certain patterns of movement that you do and ingrain them so deeply into your brain cells that after a while you just do it automatically.
This is how Professional Musicians can play hundreds of songs without even thinking about it. And this is also how Expert Haircutters can cut any haircut they want while carrying on a conversation with their customers at the same time.
